The education of the young generation of future sommeliers is a big challenge, not only for secondary vocational schools and hotel academies, but also for winegrowers, winemakers, professional sommeliers and oenologists who produce, present, serve and promote quality Slovak wines. On March 26, 2024, the 22nd year of the JUNIOR SOMELIÉR competition will take place in the premises of the Ľudovít Winter Hotel Academy in Piešťany. The professional guarantor of the currently oldest functional competition for young students in Slovakia in the field is Ing. Vladimír Hronský, oenologist, professional sommelier, lecturer of accredited courses and wine columnist. The competition is open to students of secondary vocational schools and hotel academies who can nominate themselves by the deadline through applications from their vocational school or hotel academy. The goal of the event is to compare the level of education of future sommeliers (but also baristas, tea tenders, junior chocolatiers and young bartenders) and to support them on their way to a successful future associated with the work of a sommelier (barista, teatender, chocolatier or bartender). Pupils in school teams will also compete for the ĽUDOVÍT WINTER CUP. We keep our fingers crossed for all competitors to share their theoretical knowledge and practical experience in sommelier and gain new experience and experiences.
